A Poem for Aunt Jackie

My Aunt Jackie passed away recently.   I did not see her often, but always appreciated the cards and notes she sent. I knew she loved to rhyme and create poems and after realizing that the 8 hours it would require to make it round trip for her wake and funeral would be too much, I prayed that I might be able to compose a little something in her honor to send with some flowers.

I am so thankful that my prayers were answered at 2 in the morning and the words below came.

Aunt Jackie is a great reminder of how our thoughts, words, and actions count.  She always took the time to reach out.

Thank you Aunt Jackie.

The many miles

your words erased

With loving thoughts

-a warm embrace.

Your cards declared

“you are not forgotten”

however long our last

meeting had got on.

You brought my mum closer

with your pen

as a witness of

her motherly love when

each Christmas or baby

came our way.

Aunt Jackie thank you

for always taking the time

to love each one of us

with your lines.

~Lisa
